Guadalajara and traveling/cestování
Over the past few months, I’ve traveled a lot in Mexico. My first trip was with Rotary to the orientation meeting near the city of Morelia, which is about a 5-hour drive from Guadalajara. We arrived late in the evening due to traffic jams along the way and stayed in cabins at a resort. There, I met all the new exchange students and made many new international friends.
Just a week after this first Rotary trip, I finally started school. My school is quite far from my house, about an hour’s drive, but it’s close to my second host family’s home and located in the city center. The school is large and very different from what I’m used to in the Czech Republic. Everything, except for the classrooms, the administration office, and some hallways, is outdoors. The school also has several snack bars that sell Mexican and other treats. Additionally, the school offers free access to various sports activities, a swimming pool, and a gym.
The next big event on my schedule was Independence Day, which took place on Monday, September 16th. I spent the day with my host parents in the city of Guanajuato, located about 3 hours northeast of Guadalajara. Guanajuato is very different from other major cities. The streets are narrow (by Mexican standards), winding, and much of the city center is historical. We celebrated Independence Day in the town square, where people began gathering late Sunday evening, around 11:00 PM. At midnight on September 16th, the crowded square enthusiastically chanted “Viva México!” – “Long live Mexico!”
At the end of September, I went with my host family and my German classmate Philipp on a trip to Morelia, this time to explore the city itself. Before that, we attended a Rotary breakfast. I hoped to meet some other exchange students there, but unfortunately, none of them showed up. We spent the rest of the weekend walking around the city center.
Za poslední měsíce jsem v Mexiku hodně cestoval. První výlet byl hned s Rotary na orientation meeting poblíž města Morelia, které je vzdálené asi 5 hodin cesty od Guadalajary. Na místo jsme dorazili pozdě večer kvůli dopravním zácpám během cesty a ubytovali se v chatkách v resortu, kde jsme přespávali. Potkal jsem tam všechny nové výměnné studenty a našel si spoustu nových zahraničních přátel.
Hned týden po tomto prvním Rotary výletu jsem konečně nastoupil do školy. Moje škola se nachází poměrně daleko od mého domu, asi hodinu cesty autem, ale zato je blízko k domu mé druhé hostitelské rodiny a také v centru města. Škola je velká a velmi odlišná od té v Česku. Všechno kromě učeben, sekretariátu a některých chodeb se nachází venku. Ve škole je také několik bufetů, které nabízejí mexické i jiné pochoutky. Navíc škola poskytuje zdarma různé sportovní aktivity, bazén a posilovnu.
Další velkou událostí na programu byl Den nezávislosti, který připadal na pondělí 16. září. Tento den jsem strávil s rodiči ve městě Guanajuato, které leží přibližně 3 hodiny severovýchodně od Guadalajary. Guanajuato se od ostatních velkých měst velmi liší. Ulice jsou úzké (na mexické poměry), klikaté a velká část centra je historická. Den nezávislosti jsme oslavili na náměstí, kde se lidé scházeli už od pozdního nedělního večera, okolo 23:00. Před půlnocí 16. září celé zaplněné náměstí nadšeně skandovalo "Viva México!" – "Ať žije Mexiko!".
Na konci září jsem se s mojí rodinou a mým německým kamarádem Philippem, který chodí do stejné třídy jako já, vydal na výlet do Morelie, tentokrát přímo do města. Ještě předtím jsme se zúčastnili Rotary snídaně. Doufal jsem, že se potkám s dalšími výměnnými studenty, ale bohužel nikdo z nich nepřišel. Zbytek víkendu jsme strávili procházkami centrem města.
